Hello Modern Misses! Since San Diego is such a large city, deciding how to conquer it on a getaway trip can be intimidating. There are so many beautiful places to explore here in San Diego, so I’ve created a roundup of my must-see spots in this Girlfriend’s Getaway Guide to San Diego.
Here are a few of my favorite places to explore in America’s finest city. Enjoy!
Seaport Village

Located in downtown San Diego, Seaport Village is home to over 70 shops and restaurants, sitting right on the San Diego Bay. The village is a perfect place to walk around, browse adorable shops, and dine at delicious, waterfront restaurants. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a beer fest, taco and tequila festival, or one of the many events they hold on the Embarcadero Marina Parks. The best part about this location is the extensive views of downtown, Coronado Island and the beautiful harbor.
La Jolla

La Jolla is filled with boutiques, cafes and restaurants, as well as some of the most beautiful beaches in San Diego. If you want to spend the day shopping the stores along Girard Avenue, or laying out at Wind and Sea beach, La Jolla is a beautiful place to spend the day. Walking the bluffs of La Jolla is always a good place to start, and be sure to stop by La Jolla Cove to watch playful seals on the beach and water. A few restaurant reccos are Puesto, Herringbone La Jolla, and The Cottage.
Carlsbad Village

Venture north up the coast to Carlsbad Village for a laid back afternoon of shopping and good eats. The streets are lined with cafes, boutiques, day bars, and delicious restaurants. Plus, its just a short walk to the beach! A few of my favorite places to stop by are Park 101, Succulent Cafe, Board & Brew, and Swami’s Cafe. The Village will provide the perfect relaxing afternoon for your girlfriend’s getaway trip.
Pacific Beach and Belmont Park

Pacific Beach is a fun place to explore, day or night. The boardwalk is filled with people during the day and at night the streets and bars are packed. Whether you decide to ride bikes during the day or check out some of the rooftop bars with an ocean view, PB is always a good time! While you’re there make sure to stop by Belmont Park to unleash your inner child spirit and ride the roller coaster or play some arcade games. At night, enjoy a few local favorites like Mavericks Beach Club, El Prez, Firehouse, Moonshine Beach, or Pacific Beach Ale House.
Gaslamp Quarter

If you’re looking for something to do at night, Gaslamp Quarter is the place for you. It is 16 blocks of restaurants, bars, and clubs, ensuring you will have a fun night. In the heart of downtown San Diego, it is the perfect place to experience the city at its best. There is no lack of great food, strong drinks, or people here.
Start the night at Altitude Sky Lounge where you can see the city lights and Petco Park from above. Check out Moonshine Flats if you are a country fan, or Vin de Syrah if you are a wine lover. But beware, after hours it turns from an underground wine bar into a lounge/nightclub. If you are looking for a Cuban vibe on your girlfriend’s getaway trip, transport yourself to Havana at Havana 1880, and don’t forget to grab one of their incredible mojitos. End the night on an overpriced pedi-cab, I promise you it will be worth the memories.
Little Italy

Little Italy might take the cake for my favorite locations in San Diego. Located right outside of the heart of Downtown San Diego, this eclectic area has some of the best Italian food (go figure… lol), most unique bars, and adorable street fairs. Lets talk food for a minute. The Little Italy Food Hall is a newer addition to the area. This spot is home to 6 food stations from around the world, a full bar, and patio seating. Many nights they have live music on the patio.
A few other favorite food stops are Cloak and Petal, Born and Raised, and Kettner Exchange. Each with their own style, these three restaurants are also fun as the night goes on. Don’t forget to try Salt & Straw before you head out of this location!
It is hard to go wrong when you are visiting a beautiful place like San Diego (but hey… I’m biased 😉 ). Wherever you choose to explore, I hope you enjoy your time here and make some unforgettable memories.
